The Crap Bike

This is my crap bike.  Everyone should own a crap bike.  Its great.  A bike you don't care about.  Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE this bike.  It was my first 29'er.  I've taken it winter bike camping, I've raced it, I've crashed it, the frame is bent.  Let me re-iterate.  I LOVE THIS BIKE.
As you can see its equipped with a front hydraulic disc, Fox Racing rigid fork, Ergon grips etc.  Basically this bike is a freak.  I don't actually know how many different bikes came apart to make this possible, but its over six at least.  The fork is the third one to end up on the frame.  The others, well, may they rest in piece(s).
The rear pie plate helps out a ton in deflecting snow.
The weeds wrapped around the cog help the bike go faster.
Fully custom headset consisting of a Ritchey lower assembly with a Tioga upper.
The bashguard for bashing...stuff... Its a Macneil BMX sproket from like 15 years ago.  No joke.
Custom bottle cage.  Broken multiple times.  Still works.

I love you crap bike.  I love you because I don't have to care for you.  When I come home you're always there.  When I leave you untouched for months on end I don't feel remorse.  You're a raging piece of crap and you enjoy it.  You're kind of like owning a lizard as a pet.  You require no affection.  You return no affection.  I think it works for both of us.  I'm sorry for that time I bent your frame two winters ago but you bent back alright.  I'm sorry you get the trickle down parts from my other bikes but its better than nothing right?  I'm sorry I haven't cleaned you in ages and that your chainring resembles a biopace or ROTOR ring but you still work.  You creak and protest every time I ride you but you never fail me.  I'm sorry both brakes drag all the time, perpetually, continuously, and I don't adjust them but you're a great resistance trainer.  Our relationship is entirely unhealthy and I'm fine with that.  I don't think you have much choice in the matter, unless you clean yourself up, get a haircut, and buy some shiny new parts.

2011 Jake The Snake - Impressions

The whole Jake platform received a facelift this year.  New 105 group with an Ultegra rear derailleur.  R500 wheels with matching decals.  The 53cm frame that is built up right now weighs a shade under 20lbs without pedals.  Bone stock.  No modifications.  This bike could be built up CRAZY light.
Notice the new tapered headtube design.  Full carbon fork for this season.  Looks pretty awesome to me.  You can see the changes to the 105 levers as well.  The pivot was moved and the hood shape is reminiscent of the former Dura Ace body.
An oversized seatpost, shorter chainstays and a BB30 bottom bracket round out the frame, and I must say, it rides really really well.  53cm isn't my size but I noticed an immediate difference in response vs. my 2009 Jake the Snake.  Stop in and check this bike out.   MSRP $1599.

The Goose Flys South

As some of you may know Dale Ranallo aka The Gooseman has found a new job.  He will be working for an electric company warehouse, pecking around, finding garbage, honking, hanging out on the bike path.  Standard goose stuff.  We wish him all the best in his new line of work and his witty cynicism will be missed at the shop.  If you see him out toss him some bread.  Literal bread.  Not a reference for money.  He loves that stuff. Bread  that is...  Dale, may all the bike paths before you be laden with delicious crumbs and other goose fare.

2011 Salsa

The 2011 Salsa bikes are up on the web and dang they look GREAT.  Seriously.

Powdercoated rack to match the frame and stem.  The Casseroll received a full face lift this season.  Cantilever brakes, 9 speed Tiagra, triple crank.  Commute, rando, gravel road cruising.  This bike can do it all.  We will be stocking this bike in a full size run.  Check back in the spring when we start to get them in.

Our new mascot

This thing is HUGE.  Seriously.  Its stuck between the two-pane window next to the desk.  I thought it was a hummingbird when it was flying around the shop but it turned out to be a moth.  I don't know what to name it. Any ideas?

Perhaps we should get a lizard of some sort...
